Confident woman nervous man

I can’t lie.

I was dared to ask him out. I’m serious. Someone told me that he’s never had a date. Never mind a girlfriend, never even a date. Not coffee, not drinks. What do you think he’ll do with a confident woman, being a nervous man? It wasn’t my idea. The girls put me up to it. It’s not a joke. What I mean is, it’s not meant to make him feel bad. I mean, not on purpose. Haha, it’s a little funny though. Who has never had a girlfriend at his age? That seems a little silly. What do you think we look like together? Confident woman, nervous man. I’m not trying to embarrass him, but I’m afraid I might say something dumb and embarrass him by accident.

Possibly, I’m just the type to break him out of his shell. I’m so curious about what’s underneath that stuffy, fidgety exterior. I’d love to peel that back and see what else is there. I bet I could hold him in the palm of my hand and he would tell me all his secrets. That’s the perfect pair. A confident woman, a nervous man. He needs me. Everyone thought they were punishing me, but I know exactly what he needs.

Is that crazy? No. Of course not! Opposites always attract. That’s the oldest saying ever. We balance each other out. I’ve been noticing it the more we get to know each other. Now it makes sense why this didn’t creep me out. I like how this is fitting.

And just like that, it dawned on me while we were sitting at dinner. So, I started to rub my foot on his foot under the table. He subtly scooted his foot away from mine. He got a funny look on his face as if he had made a mistake. I think he thought he kicked me by accident. It never occurred to him that I might be flirting with him on purpose. A confident woman, a nervous man? Never.

He was extra nervous (as if that was even possible) compared to when I had seen him in the past. He was drumming his fingers and tapping on his water glass. I asked if he wanted to get a drink, but he said he doesn’t drink. Figures. I was two cocktails deep by entrees. Did he know this was an ill-intentioned setup? Did he think this was a forbidden attraction, and I was there to tease him?

By the time we finish, I’ve tried playing footsy several times, only to have him pull away. He won’t leave his hands on the table, so I can’t stroke his fingers. As we walk to the door, he lets his hands dangle, so I grab one. His face flushes, and he turns to look at me, surprised.

We split a car to go home. As forward as I want to be, I refrain from being extra aggressive and instead put my hand gently on his knee, lightly dragging my hand up his thigh throughout the car ride. When we casually slide up in front of my building, I gather my purse, thank the driver, lean into his ear, and tell him I’d adore to do it all again ASAP as a hot breath escapes my lips and slides down his neck.
