It’s Warm Inside, And Balmy.

Overwhelmed by the beauty, you’ve almost forgotten you’re stranded. Luckily, tropical plants are growing all around you. Hunger should not be a worry. You aren’t aware of this yet, but the fruit won’t be the only sweetness to touch your lips during your stay. As you continue your exploration, you wander deep into the fern room. The humidity makes you feel like you’ve stepped off the plane in Miami. As for now, South Florida sounds just fine. This secret winter garden has you as mesmerized as a book you read decades ago. You close your eyes and forget the storm, forget technology, forget politics, and even Chicago. It’s just you and moisture forming on the back of your neck, at the end of January. Above all, alone, peaceful, and feeling such great relief. Your mistakes float away, down the little pond you are dipping your fingers in.

It’s paradise. However, you’re only missing one thing. Moreover, one someone. Although you finally have the time to reflect on your mistakes, you choose not to. Instead, you focus on happiness. Finally, happiness. You want your future person to see you as you are, right now, in this moment. Free of your neurosis and hang-ups, and just enjoying being. Content with where you are. Grateful for your warmth and shelter. No longer terrified of the future and haunted by your past, your eyes begin to focus. As if you just opened your eyes for the first time, you see her. The most beautiful creature you’ve ever seen. Eager to meet, you walk closer. Her hand reaches out to yours. Your heart is beating so fast. Your relaxed state is over.  You really don’t mind. Not even a little. Instead, you fuel it.
