Where is the man who will steal my heart?

In this day and age, it’s almost impossible to find love organically. Everyone’s chasing after sex with dating apps and meaningless connections. I wish I was born in a different time. The days before phones and social media. Before this dire need to find someone so physically perfect, you forget to check on their character. I want someone to steal my heart by writing me long-hand love letters and dancing with me in the fucking rain. Someone who loves reading my poetry and maybe writes some of their own.

It doesn’t have to be some storybook romance. I know love isn’t always perfect. But having something genuine and real is something I’ve been wanting for such a long time. I’m dreaming of meeting the person who’ll steal my heart in a sweet and simple way. The type of love where you look into someone’s eyes and just know they’re going to be important to you. That’s what I’m after.

There was a man once who stole my heart.

I’d like to think that I’ve experienced a pure form of love before. I sure gave it all I had. I’ve loved someone with my whole heart, and I think I’m lucky to be able to say that. Not everyone can. He stole my heart the moment I met him. We talked all night the first time we met and it was as if I’d known him and loved him so many times before. Our love story was imperfect, simple, and short-lived. But it was so epic.

I was young and I’d never been in love before, but he stole my heart so swiftly. He was older and in a rocky part of his life. I think being with me was his way of escaping reality, which was forcing him to grow and adapt to adulthood. Being with me meant he got to take a break from his worries and everything that was eating him alive. Being with him was pure bliss for me. So, it was a win-win. Having someone to fall asleep next to, someone to make love with and tell all my stupid drama to was something I never wanted to let go of.

One thing the relationship taught me was that nothing lasts forever.

Even though I dream of finding an amazing love, I’ve realized that finding someone to love also means accepting that they won’t be around forever. Letting someone steal my heart can very well be an extremely scary thing. Anything from falling out of love or death itself rips us apart from the people we love. Spending your life with someone is making the conscious decision to adapt your life around a person who will inevitably disappear. And it’s such a sad, painful, beautiful, amazing thing. I want so badly to experience it.

All in all, I can’t wait to find my person. I know he’s out there, and I know our love story will be even better than the movies. Better than the Nicholas Sparks novels and better than anything Judy Bloom could’ve prepared me for. Who knows, maybe the love of my life is reading this now. The possibilities are endless, and love is such a funny thing. Either way, I can’t wait to spend my life with the man of my dreams.
