This anonymous quote describes the suffering of women who sell their bodies. But, what of the men who buy sex? Why would a married man visit a prostitute or a call girl? And pay money for sex when his wife is available at home? Why would a single man purchase sex? When he can be with his girlfriend who is more than willing to engage in this most intimate of acts?

Experts hotly debate the reasons for this without being able to come to a consensus. The failure to come to agreement is due to the fact that the motivating factor towards visiting prostitutes is varied and complex. In other words, there is no single reason for this behavior. Let’s look at the world of prostitution and explore some of the factors involved.

Various studies cited that the percentage of men who visit prostitutes varies from one nation to the next. With the range estimated from 16%, in countries like the United States, to 90% in places like Thailand. A more accurate range is probably from 16 to 39% of men worldwide visit prostitutes.

A survey of men online revealed that a substantial portion of the men are married. White, earn over $120,000 per year, have graduate degrees and think about sex more (and feel less guilty about it), compared with other groups of men. 

Men of this more privileged class cruise the internet instead of the sidewalks for sex also have different views about prostitution. Those men who frequent prostitutes across all racial, economic social class and age lines. In other words, truck drivers to teachers, politicians, doctors, lawyers and even law enforcement officials, people visit prostitutes.

The World of Prostitution: Exploring the Complexities

Before telephones and the advent of paid phone sex, visiting a prostitute was the only way for a person to be sexual with anonymity and without the risk of emotional complication. One might speculate this plays a part as to why a man who explores the world of prostitution prefers it to online masturbatory fantasy. Even if it does put him at risk of losing things very important to him.

Let’s examine some of the many possible reasons, remembering that there is no single explanation for all men.
Several men are driven by the compulsive need for sex. This can be true for men and women. In this case, the men driven by this compulsion can never get enough. They frequent prostitutes in an attempt to get as much sex as they can. Without it they are in a perpetual state of frustration.

Misogyny is the hatred of women. There are those experts who believe that men who frequent prostitutes have a real hatred of women. 

Unmasking the Reality of Prostitution

The motivating factors for men seeking prostitutes are debatable. There is general agreement among experts that prostitution takes a heavy toll on the physical and emotional health of the women involved. Women must block their emotions in order to be able to work at what they do. Also, they are subject to physical abuse at the hands of johns and the pimps who sell their bodies. The question is why do women get involved in prostitution?

Contrary to assumptions that women enter the world of prostitution only because they are desperate. That they need money to pay bills or buy drugs.
