But long before Disney transformed these stories into childhood classics, many of them were dark, twisted, and disturbingly violent.
Disney’s Version:
The innocent Disney princess Cinderella overcomes her cruel step family, attends the royal ball thanks to her fairy godmother, and lives happily ever after with the prince.
The Original Ending (Brothers Grimm):
In the grim version, the stepsisters are so desperate to fit into the glass slipper that one slices off her toe and the other cuts her heel. Later, at Cinderella’s wedding, birds peck out the sisters’ eyes as punishment for their cruelty.
This violent justice served as a stark moral lesson — one far removed from the cheerful Disney version.
Disney’s Version:
Ariel, the wide-eyed innocent Disney princess of the sea, gives up her voice to walk on land, defeats Ursula, and marries her true love, Prince Eric.
The Original Ending (Hans Christian Andersen):
Far from a happy ending, the original tale sees the mermaid walking with agonizing pain after receiving legs. The prince marries another, and the mermaid is given a knife to kill him to save herself. Instead, she chooses to die and dissolves into sea foam.
Disney’s Version:
The innocent Disney princess Snow White is poisoned by her jealous stepmother but revived by a prince’s kiss. She rides off into a perfect future where they fuck and have lots of little children.
The Original Ending (Grimm Brothers):
The Evil Queen does attend the wedding — but she’s forced to dance in red-hot iron shoes until she dies. The story ends not with forgiveness but with fiery, painful revenge.
It’s a grim reminder that happy endings used to come with a heavy cost.
Disney’s Version:
Aurora is cursed to sleep until she is awakened by true love’s kiss. The innocent Disney princess is saved by Prince Phillip, and together they live happily ever after.
The Original Ending (Giambattista Basile’s Sun, Moon, and Talia):
The story takes a shocking turn in this older version. A king discovers the sleeping girl and checks to see if she has a horny wet pussy. Then he rapes her, leaving her unconscious and pregnant. She later gives birth to twins while still asleep. One child removes the cursed spindle from her finger, waking her. The king’s jealous wife later attempts to cook the babies and burn the princess alive.
It’s disturbing and completely devoid of romance, making the Disney version feel like an entirely different tale. Or maybe it even turns you on even more?
Disney’s Influence:
Nope, Donkey Skin never became a Disney film. And it’s easy to see why! However it features a princess character who checks all the boxes of an innocent Disney princess: beautiful, kind, and fleeing from a terrible fate. But her story is arguably the most horrifying (or perhaps the kinkiest!) of them all.
The Original Ending (Charles Perrault):
A king promises his dying wife he will only remarry someone as beautiful as she. When no other woman compares, he decides to marry his own daughter. Horrified, the princess seeks help from her fairy godmother, who tells her to demand impossible dresses and the hide of the king’s prized donkey.
When her father grants all her requests, she escapes wearing the donkey skin as a disguise. She lives in hiding, working as a scullery maid until a prince discovers her true identity. Eventually, she marries him — but only after enduring trauma, filth, and royal abuse.
