When the veil is thin on Hallowes Eve, a portal opens to the worlds beyond and the freaks come out to prowl, prey and play. You’d better ‘watch your back’ they say or you may end that very same way! This is a short story of one very freaky Halloween night, when the party was over and everyone had gone home…or so I thought!
Party planning months in advance and hours of setting up, decorating, cooking, baking and getting my costume and makeup done so no one knows it’s me…until I speak. My favorite holiday to play and get freaky – because I can! I can be ANYONE or ANYTHING I want on Halloween! Maybe this year I won’t say a word…just gestures and body movement. It’s true, even with friends and friends of friends, the freaks come out on Halloween!
Drinks, smokes, snorts, music, laughter, so much food and the night is almost coming to an end…when I bring the ouija board out. We all love this time of night where we sit in a circle, some a little stoned, some feeling the drinks and some not sure what’s going on. We let spirit guide us into the dark unknown. Spirit knows everything and you can’t run or hide from what’s about to be revealed…you just hope they don’t pick you!

Nothing. No answer on that last question. Hmmm…a few more prompts and this spirit is quiet – although still here as candles are being snuffed out, lights are flickering and the music has stopped. Not wanting to push too hard, because we know that it can turn on us quickly (from experience 4 years ago), we decide to thank the spirit for being here and wish it well. But…what I hadn’t realized is that I forgot to say ‘good bye’. This is essential to closing out the communication and the portal.
The last of my guests leave and I’m milling around cleaning up and I hear ‘silence is not golden when the freaks come out’. “What the…who’s there” I turn around quickly to see nothing, no one. I feel a cold breeze across my face and shivers crawl up my spine. And then my head flails back and I feel something across my lips as I’m gently swept to the ground, on my back. I can’t move…frozen. My eyes wide I look up and see something hovering over me. I can’t make out what kind of ghostly creature this is but it feels familiar, like I’ve seen it before. Oddly enough, I’m more curious than scared. I feel a warmth of some sort. Looking down, I notice I’m fully naked…’how’d that happen’ I think to myself.
What happens next is too much to share in words. By choosing to stay silent all night, I guess I invited this ghostly spirit forward. He matched my energy and desire to be taken in all the ways, especially when the freaks come out.
