It was a beautiful April afternoon. The flowers on the trees had suddenly all bloomed overnight, and there was a sense of new beginnings in the air. The neighborhood farmer’s market was finally open for the season, which Shelly took full advantage of. Her mood was on the better side, especially after seeing the newly formed colors as well as cheery smiles around her. As she walked into the park, tote bag in arm, she spotted some fresh berries. She walked up to the stand, determined to pick the prettiest box. Then a low voice behind her said, “You should try the honey, it’s the best I’ve ever had.” She turned to see a gorgeous, olive-skinned man with no ring. She smiled back and thought to herself, “Just in time for dress weather.” Shelly had no idea this encounter would lead to a Spring Sex Scandal.

Their Chemistry Was Instant.

The change of the weather led this new “friend” to perspire just enough to let Shelly be sure that the attraction wasn’t just based on looks alone. She wanted to smell him more than the fresh bouquets set out in rows beside her. Even more, she wanted to know what he tasted like. As their pupils both dilated simultaneously, they played a sexy version of table tennis, with their eyes alone. Usually on the shyer side, she found herself letting go and relaxing. The rest of the day was perfect. As hard as it was, she behaved herself. By night’s end, numbers were exchanged, followed by a kiss, and another, and another. The next day, she awoke and reached for her phone. A single text, from… you’ve guessed it. “Want to grab lunch?” So they did. The next day was dinner, and the next day some live music and cocktails. She went back to his place. He played music (all things she loved) and had her favorite wine in the fridge. It was such a coincidence! Or was it? She was enjoying herself so much, but suddenly, for the first time, she felt uncomfortable. She excused herself to use the restroom. There was a pink porcelain box that she couldn’t help but open. Inside was a photo of a girl, only from the back, who looked freakishly like her.

The image was blurred with blue lights… just like the ones at her favorite bar.  Her heart began to beat faster. She walked out and told him she had to leave. As she went to run out the door, she knocked over a box on the table.  They were all her own belongings that had gone missing. He said, “I’m surprised your friends didn’t tell you about me, or maybe they haven’t put the pieces together yet. I only did it to know more about you.” She started thinking back to her girlfriends and their most recent dates.  She looked at him and said, “Those guys were all you?” He started to come closer and said, “I only fucked them to figure you out before I made my move. I’ve been watching you for a long time. Every dream is of you and this never-ending hookup.” What will Shelly do?
